I am not my hair

But I'd be lying if I didn't say I miss it sometimes :/

Quick Update

I've been working fulltime a little over 6 months now, and sometimes when I think about all the hours of sleep I lost during that time I die a little bit inside...

Okay, so not really. But let me tell you, it's amazing how much more you're willing to push yourself & stay on your toes when you're getting paid to do it. Shouldn't be that way but maybe I should have pretended I was getting paid to take my microbiology and ochem finals. If only I took that approach in regards to blogging. I really do miss writing though, out of all things school-related.

The funny thing about being at work all the time now is that before, I was so excited to get out into the "real world", like I was supposed to undergo this transformation and would magically become enlightened in...I don't know what. Something. That turned out to be not true for me. Now, with the change in climate across California campuses thanks to ignorant people being ignorant, budget cuts, etc., I feel like I'm missing out on some real issues that affect almost every 20-something I know. I just feel very out of the loop not experiencing anything firsthand.

Nevertheless, I am very thankful to have graduated and thankful for my job, one reason being that I can finally save a good amount of money. I don't do it to the degree that I'd like to, but anything to be one step closer to being on my own... You'd think that as you get older your parents would reason with you more and you wouldn't argue as much. That's false too.

Hand in My Pocket

I'm broke but I'm happy
I'm poor but I'm kind
I'm short but I'm healthy, yeah
I'm high but I'm grounded
I'm sane but I'm overwhelmed
I'm lost but I'm hopeful, baby

And what it all comes down to
Is that everything's gonna be fine fine fine
I've got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is giving a high five

I feel drunk but I'm sober
I'm young and I'm underpaid
I'm tired but I'm working, yeah
I care but I'm restless
I'm here but I'm really gone
I'm wrong and I'm sorry baby

What it all comes down to
Is that everything's gonna be quite alright
I've got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is flicking a cigarette

And what it all comes down to
Is that I haven't got it all figured out just yet
I've got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is giving the peace sign

I'm free but I'm focused
I'm green but I'm wise
I'm hard but I'm friendly baby
I'm sad but I'm laughing
I'm brave but I'm chickenshit
I'm sick but I'm pretty baby

And what it all boils down to
Is that no one's really got it figured out just yet
I've got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is playing the piano
And what it all comes down to my friends
Is that everything's just fine fine fine
I've got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is hailing a taxi cab

Setting the bar

So now that things are a little different for me now in terms of lifestyle, free time, etc., I thought I should set myself some new goals. These are ongoing, and I don't want to set a deadline for any of them, but I need some new stuff to look forward to and work towards these days.

1. Work on time management. Don't try to cram too much stuff in one day.
2. Specifically make some time for the gym. And if possible, reading.
3. To compensate lack of gym time -> eat healthier.
4. Getting a decent night of sleep each day is a must.
5. Get a new damn phone!
6. Apply for a credit card/build credit (I know, I'm late on that)
7. Save, save, save $$$. Avoid splurging. Forreal.
8. When the time is right (?), move out of the house
...
573. Buy myself a Marc Jacobs bag :/

Blegh

This blog used to be so good. Okay, so I don't mean to toot my own horn, but I think it used to be good at least.

Someone inspire me. Piss me off. Surprise me. Criticize me. Motivate me. Advise me. Commit a social injustice against me. Tell me I'm wrong. Agree with me. Bitch me out. Praise me. Anything at this point.

Just in case

Note to self/unsure graduates/anxious twenty-somethings/probably you:

Don't be so emo.  You live in America.  Meaning freedom of speech. Endless possibilities.  You probably have never felt what it's really like to go hungry. There's a roof over your head. People in the world wake up not knowing if they will survive the end of the day.  What struggle? Really? Don't take things for granted. Life is good. You'll be fine.

When the lights go down in the City...

Click on the picture for my Multiply album

Just what I needed to start my final quarter at UCI.  Although I'm pretty exhausted, at the same time I feel rejuvenated after a weekend getaway where I could just enjoy quality time with some good folks.

More interesting posts to come up, I pinky swear.

About time

First day of school today! Now I might actually have stuff to talk about on here. I'm really looking forward to my last year at UCI; I'm more determined to really push myself academic-wise since it's now or never, right? Even though I've decided I'm going to pursue a Masters after this year, but that's another story.

The breakdown for this quarter and end of the year:

Schedule/classes:
+Cell Biology
+Human Physiology
+Developmental & Cell Biology Lab
+Work 4 days a week

Stuff to look forward to:
+Dressing up for Halloween (I'm making sure of it since last year was a bust)
+Shocktoberfest? If the line-up gets better, not so sure about Three Six Mafia
+Watching my brother's last band tournaments, especially MC/Arcadia
+Another L.A. trip hopefully
+Work out at least 3 times a week. I'm making it happen.
+Make more decisions regarding grad school
+Thanksgiving Break
+22nd Birthday, yikes
+Save up more money
+6 Year Anniversary

More later, off to class. Bring on the stress! Ha.

Somewhere in Boom-Kack, NY...

Since I love the show, here's a little something for my fellow MTB4 fans...

The singing may not be as boom-kackalicious as her dancing, but the video is ridiculous nonetheless. You betta work!

Here's Your Chance People

It kinda sucks to blog at work during my lunch break since my laptop decided to die on me finally after 3 years - which means I don't really have time to post a thoughtful or detailed entry on my latest revelations about life. Really you guys are missing out. Haha but for the mean time here's a quick one on something I thought was pretty interesting.

MTV's True Life is casting for the next season, so check it out and see if you fall under any of these categories (some are straight up LOL-worthy):

I'M COMPETITIVE WITH MY FRIENDS
I'M ROBOTRIPPING/SIPPING LEAN
I'M ADDICTED TO MEDS
I'M IN A LOVE TRIANGLE
I CAN'T SLEEP
I HAVE POSTTRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER (PTSD)
I'M NUYORICAN
I'M ELOPING
I DON'T LIKE MY BREASTS
I'M GOING BALD
I'M A FAN BOY
I'M HAVING TWINS
I'M A SURROGATE
I LIVE IN DUBAI
I'M STUCK AT HOME
I'M LOOKING FOR MY SIBLING
I CAN'T CONTROL MYSELF
I'M STARTING A DANGEROUS JOB

I seriously thought back in high school if MTV was cool to do "I'm an Urban Cheerleader" then they definitely should've done "I'm in Colorguard" or "I'm Going to Band Camp". Give us a chance!

Sometimes All You Need...

is a good hard cry and a chance to spill your heart out. At least I did.

I feel better.
