I'm the worst storyteller

For a few reasons. First of all, I can't verbally articulate for shit (which is why I like blogging/writing). It's really weird. If you compare stuff I'd say in real life to posts you'd find on here, you probably wouldn't make the connection that it's coming from the same person. In my opinion at least. I'm sure my poor public-speaking abilities have swayed my first impressions more towards "ice queen" and away from "zomg let's be friends!" I love it when it someone decides we're finally cool (for lack of a better word), so they don't feel so bad about tearing down my first impression. Yeah, I know I don't charm the pants off people right away. No, I can't help it if my default face is "bitch" (can't stand the term, but again, for lack of a better word).

The simpler explanation for being a sucky storyteller is the boring content. What can I say, drama-free's the way to be. But an epic blowout with your boyfriend would make for good conversation. Just once, Raf. We work things out pretty fast anyways.

Case in point:

"Well, I didn't mean to scratch his face that hard. Anyways, a few seconds after I left the room I heard the crash against the wall"

"He was fuming. The windshield just looked like a giant spiderweb"

"Swear to god I was gonna walk away from everything at that moment. I couldn't handle this shit anymore"

"It must've been 55 mph when he jumped out of the car. I didn't even notice until I saw him rolling in the rearview mirror"

And what about you Kristine?

"Um, we just didn't talk for a few days?"

Foodie/fatty post?

It's 12:32am, and I'm tired as fuhh. For the third time this week, I ate to the point of unbuttoning-of-the-pants. Despite feeling like shit from all this excessive food consumption (and lack of gym time), it's been damn worth it. I mean, a mini Babybel and a cup of coffee in the morning will only suffice for so long. Black coffee, 3 vanilla creamers, half a Splenda, add a little hot water to dilute. Everyday. I suppress myself so much during the workweek that these binges are bound to happen. There's also a part of me that just wants to see how far I can take it in terms of eating and gaining weight. Probably over-analyzing here but when people can't seem to think of something else to say to me besides "You're so small/tiny!" (like, EVER), I want to eat just to spite the world. Underlying body issues? Whatever, it's probably just tonight's beer talking.

Speaking of which, I don't know what took me so long to get hooked on beer. Imagine what that would've done to me at 198, my god. I've always been the wino of the group - cabernets, pinot grigios and rieslings FTW - but now I feel like I have some catching up to do start working my way up to "beer connoisseur" status. I owe it all to a trip to Yardhouse one fateful night and this:

Before trying this, I hated beer. Afterwards, I saw the light. Simple as that. Sidenote: my mom fronted me about drinking beer by myself in my room. She saw the empty cans in the recycling...lol...

As for what I've consumed the past 3 days (with Raf's help):

Papas Loco with scrambled eggs. Quite possibly one of THE best plates of breakfast I've had in my life. Rosemary potatoes, grilled jalapeños, black beans, cheese, avocado, and sour cream.
Desayuno Burrito. Large tortilla filled with potatoes, eggs, cheese, beans, scallions, and chipotle cream.

Ginger mango sake2me & a glass of Riesling.
Gelato. Forgot the name of this behemoth of a dessert but it had at least milk chocolate, dark chocolate and hazelnut.
Strawberries and pastry cream crepe.

Marinated Tuna and Avocado Spring Roll.
Lightly Roasted Bonito Sashimi
Deep fried tofu with tempura sauce
Sand borer "Kisu" Fish Tempura
Roasted Duck with Green Onion
Rice Ball in Broth (Salmon)

I'm still recovering from fair food from last weekend to be honest...

Balrogs, Krakens, & Nazgûl, Oh My

While a good amount of my friends were living up the end of their spring breaks this past weekend, I decided to lay low, aka catch a movie & watch 2/3 of my favorite trilogy ever. No complaints here, especially when you add some cheap wine, fatty cupcakes, yummy leftovers, and a Rawfiki for some good company. It didn't even take that much effort for me to convince him that missing out on the Lakers game for some kickass fellowship bromance wouldn't be so bad.

Not only did I get my LOTR fix, but I ended up dragging Raf & Jay to go see "Clash of the Titans". I'm pretty sure I was laughing throughout the whole thing, but if you're going to remake a camp classic, I guess it's not totally unexpected. I'm still not convinced that Sam Worthington can act, but he's nice to look at I guess. Mads Mikkelsen was pretty badass and was the best part of the movie for me (he played Le Chiffre in "Casino Royale"). As ridiculous as the original is, it'll always have a soft spot in my heart since I've seen it so many times. And I wish they utilized this little guy more in the revamped version -

If you're in need for some lolz & cheesy goodness, I would save the $12 something and catch the original COTT on youtube. I can't get enough of movies with some epic movie creatures. If I had Netflix, I would almost put this in my queue:

A music post.

I just uploaded about 400 songs to my computer thanks to my brother. NIOCE.

Why I bring this up: I can't stand putting my whole iTunes on shuffle because I need some consistency when listening to music. Unfortunately, that means missing out on a lot of good stuff that's right in front of me - if it doesn't come to mind, it just won't get played. I'm always looking for new stuff to add, only to be listened to a few times then forgotten...they're like the never-worn, still-have-tags pieces of clothing just sitting in my closet. What a waste.

But don't you guys have those moments when you listen to a song and you can automatically think of the perfect corresponding moment from your day? Or it takes to you somewhere very specific? Happened to me quite a lot today so I thought I'd share.

That guy that your friend won't shut up about but just needs to drop already. I will confront the dude for you my friend if that means getting all fierce up in his face Janet-style with accompanying dance moves. I'll even be content with a background dancer role. God I wish life was like a music video sometimes.

I hate this song. Heard it on the radio this morning. Every time I hear it, I'm standing on the bleachers inside the gym with 2 of my friends during a middle school dance, overlooking everyone else awkwardly slow dancing. OR I'm sitting on the floor in my room when I lived in the condo, crying over the guy I liked because he told me he was moving to the East Coast. Shoot me now.

I heard this song at Starbucks and it automatically made my heart all warm and gushy. It also makes me want to fly? It's just awesome.

Good morning at work...

and sometimes by the end of the day. Hah.

Yeezy thanks you for your time.

#freekanye

I can only hope & pray that one day Not So Small Talk will achieve levels of brilliance & literary prowess parallel to those of Mr. West's blog.

The CAPS LOCK, the blatant disregard for proper punctuation, the "LOL!!" finale, I could go on.

Okay, so I didn't have a real reason to post this except I had nothing to do at work today, so it was just me & my Ipod for a while. Truth is I forgot how great "The College Dropout" is; I have such a love-hate relationship with 'Ye. I just hope he brings as many lulz & WTF moments in 2010 as last year.

I'm going to end this post with one of my favorite Kanye quotes: "WHY WON'T YOU LET ME BE GREAT!!!"

A random thoughts post

-It's tough for me to believe that this year is almost over. Every year people always say "this year's gone by so fast!" but lemme tell you, that's the damn truth for 2009 - for me anyways. About a year ago I was studying for my physiology and dev & cell bio finals, getting ready to go to Vegas with 198 & co. and now I'm going into my fourth month working fulltime. I feel like that was eons ago, then there's the mountain of stuff that happened in between...

-No "what I've learned this past year" post from me. But what I will say is that this year was the closest I've been to experiencing the full spectrum of human emotion. The wave of feelings that I've dealt with these past few months alone was so...cornucopian? Am I even using that right? Doesn't really help that I'm not even sure about what I'm trying to say.

-I've felt this surge of whining and "life sucks" attitudes from a good amount of people for a while now. Maybe that's what I get from following all these people on twitter. Or it could just be a reflection of the state of our country right now (raised tuition, unemployment, etc.). But wow, you gotta shake that negativity off peeps. That's one thing I've had on replay in my head. I'm sure there's good things aplenty you can smile about during your day to offset some petty annoyance that you're just going to forget about the next day. Don't wait for a drastic event remind you of how much you need to enjoy what you have because it can all be gone in a flicker.

-When I was 16 or 17 I would constantly overthink about how different my life would be five years ahead. Here I am, almost 23, still doing the same thing. All of those shoulda, coulda, woulda's. The paths not taken, the ones you wish were available to you, deciding on your next move. I wonder if people still think this way when they're like 90 or if it never really goes away.

-Despite all that, I am in a very happy state. I really am.

Worth a try

I have no idea what the end product of this post is going to be like. Erwin had pointed out how lackluster the efforts of our little blogging community have been lately (the peeps on the right side of my page if you didn't know already), so I thought I might as well wing it and post something. You could say most of my favorite posts have been class-lecture or douche-encounter inspired, but obviously I can't rely on that for inspiration no mo'. I feel like I rag on religion too much as well, and although I have plenty more to say, I'd like to still believe there's a little place in heaven for me someday O:-)

I prefer to flesh out my posts if possible, so I'll usually only blog about something after it's had time to simmer in my brain and I have enough shit to say. I like my posts meaty. But with the combination of being addicted to Twitter and being as impatient as I am, I tend to just blurt out the thoughts in my head as they come now.

There's no stupid comment by some ignoramus in class I can build a post off of anymore. I see the same people everyday at work and for the most part they are all really nice - I'm not even exaggerating. So what now? I mean jeez I'm only turning 23 soon, I don't want to think life starts to get less interesting and shit starts to get really real from this point. The next closest milestones won't be happening anytime soon, as long as life goes according to plan:

-Moving out: Maybe in the next year? Or two? I like not having to pay for much while living with my 'rents but this could definitely happen in the near future.
-Marriage: Meh, I'm not really in a hurry. Some people say not much will change, so why not? I say not much will change, so why in a rush?
-Kids: I'd like to remain kid-less for a while after getting married. I actually questioned myself at times if I really wanted kids at all. I think I was just scared at what kind of mother I would turn out to be, but then I snapped out of it. I mean how cool with it be to have a mom with such infinite wisdom? (I keed, you never know how well sarcasm comes across on teh interwebs).

But what of the meantime?

Til the next post...whenever that is...

Another Reason Why I'm Scared of the Ocean

Okay, maybe not so much scared because these aren't like the humongo open-ocean creatures that haunt me in my dreams sometimes (forreal), but GROSS. These giant marine isopods are in the same Class as crabs, lobsters & shrimp - Malacostraca - but this seriously makes me think twice about eating any of those things ever again. I mean if you really think about it, and I've actually discussed this in one of my classes, lobsters are like "cockroaches of the sea"...

Yummy.

Appetizing.

Doesn't roly poly bisque sound just as good?

Blegh

This blog used to be so good. Okay, so I don't mean to toot my own horn, but I think it used to be good at least.

Someone inspire me. Piss me off. Surprise me. Criticize me. Motivate me. Advise me. Commit a social injustice against me. Tell me I'm wrong. Agree with me. Bitch me out. Praise me. Anything at this point.

Everybody's doing it

I was tagged in Facebook for 16 random things about me, thought I might as well post it here as well.

1. English is my second language, since I was born in the PI and learned Tagalog first. I was in ESL early in elementary school, and now I can barely speak Tagalog even though I understand it well.

2. I have an older sister. She was born and passed away before I was born.

3. I won the spelling bee in 3rd grade and the geography bee in the 5th.

4. Most of the time I waste on the internet is due to reading entertainment blogs. I know random things about various actors, bands, musicians, etc. OhNoTheyDidnt is my favorite.

5. Ever since high school ended, I haven't really found a hobby or extracurricular activity that I can obsess over as much as colorguard. A good number of my best high school memories are from all things colorguard-related.

6. I play a mean faux-guitar, via Rock Band or Guitar Hero. I used to take piano lessons but I'm a little rusty on that now.

7. My "thing" in elementary and middle school was swim team. I started swimming lessons at Miramar when it was still a naval base, and I was part of the PQ Swim Team for a while.

8. I knocked out one of my teeth (lateral incisor) with a guard rifle. It was spinning fast horizontally and smacked me right in my mouth. I also smacked my forehead with a flag during freshman year; after my egg-sized bruised subsided, it left a black line under my eye for 2 weeks. But I've never broken a bone.

9. For some reason I think I make a bad first impression on most people, like I'm really bitchy or something. I think it's because of my default face and that I'm a pretty quiet/private person. Something to work on I guess.

10. I was in an accident a couple summers back driving from Irvine to SD. My car spun and hit a hill on the right side of the freeway, and if I spun out 50 yards earlier, the only thing that would've separated me from the cliff side was a wire fence.

11.When I was a kid, I wanted to grow up to be either a Blue Angels pilot or a paleontologist.

12. I question my beliefs - on just about everything - a lot. As long as I just think about "balance", I think I'll be fine.

13. My favorite movie is The Shawshank Redemption because it's about hope.

14. I have really sensitive skin. A little scratch will cause my skin to rise.

15. I have my 6-year anniversary with Raf on Friday. For that I consider myself very, very lucky.

16. I always write more than I should and can't do short and succinct, as you can see.

It's late and I'm a little nostalgic

I miss 90's cartoons.

Darkwing Duck - This is honestly one of the best theme songs ever.

Tale Spin
- One of my favorites back in the day, when the Disney Channel was actually watchable.

Animaniacs - entertaining and informative? Fcking awesome.

There's way more, I'm just lazy to post all my faves.

Classroom LOL of the Day

During lecture for my developmental and cell biology lab, our professor showed us a clip that one of the classes put up on Youtube last year showing their results (Keep in mind this was shown on a huge projector in a lecture hall that fits about 300+ people, and my professor didn't realize anything until after it had been up for a good 20 seconds):

It's October and It's Still Hot

I feel some kind of obligation to write on here since I haven't done so in a while, even if the content is random or irrelevant. Basically, I feel like I've been literally 9-to-5ing it with school and work almost everyday for a little over a year now (including all of summer) and I'm a little tired right now. Just a little bit.

That isn't necessarily a bad thing I guess. So far I've been keeping up with homework and labs, and even readings - I'll admit I barely opened my textbooks last year, so this is a good change. On top of that, I made a deal with myself that with every payday, I have to buy 1-2 new books for leisure reading (yes, FOR FUN). My book collection up here at the apartment has been looking dumpy to me, so I decided to change that as well. A couple days ago I picked up Slut! by Leora Tanenbaum, which basically talks about sexual stereotyping and the old double standard; it's a little funny because just recently I was realizing how much I started to hate that word. I also picked out Choke by Chuck Palahniuk, author of Fight Club, and I'll let you know how that turns out later. Or you could just go out and watch the upcoming movie, your choice, just keep in mind how that turned out for I Am Legend.

I've also been trying to keep up with the election, and I'm pretty excited to exercise my right to vote this time around since I barely missed the last Presidential one by about a month. My views on that will be saved for another time as well.

Finally here's a little chart from Slut! that I though was interesting, although nothing new.

Positive expressions for a sexually active man:
stud, player, stallion, ladies' man, the man, Romeo, Don Juan, Cassanova, bounder, gigolo, lover, lover boy/man, pimp

Negative Expressions for a sexually active man:
womanizer, wolf, dog, pig, "cant keep it in his pants"

Positive expressions for a sexually active woman:
hot, sexy

Negative expressions for a sexully active woman:
slut, whore, tramp, ho, bitch, hoochie, pig, prostitute, hooker, nympho, harlot, hussy, tart, bimbo, floozy, vixen, minx, loose woman, fallen woman, vamp, wench, slattern, Jezebel, strumpet, skank, sleaze, slag, sexpot, streetwalker, slore

Somewhere in Boom-Kack, NY...

Since I love the show, here's a little something for my fellow MTB4 fans...

The singing may not be as boom-kackalicious as her dancing, but the video is ridiculous nonetheless. You betta work!

If you don't think this is fierce, Laurie Ann says "Tell him to shut up!"

OMFG

I am way too invested in this show. I can't believe the season finale is next week already. Georgina needs to GTFO.

And just because she's the HBIC & I love her -
